About

Critical Work is an internet zine based in Milwaukee, WI, USA. We publish articles, blogs, videos, academic essays and experimental multimedia pieces about everyday life, art and culture, teaching and learning. The site began as the internet home for the print magazine of the same name; both supported the solidarity unionism and organizing work of Lee Abbott and Royal Brevväxling when they were Ph.D. students and workers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It later morphed into a resource of essays critical of the status quo more generally and, still later in its third iteration since being founded in 2008, was a dedicated workspace for Writing and Humanities students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. It is now a repository of sorts for the writing of Royal Brevväxling. You can find Royal's photo work here and more things Royal and Brevväxling in general here.
