Deep Dive - Articles

CNN

While looking at the site, the layout is meant to throw as many articles to readers as possible when looking at the website. Four top stories with images in the main page. As well as news breaking stories in the top labeled in tabs. At the time being news about the Queen's death. Making it almost impossible for a reader to be able to not find a story that may feed their interest.
The article I researched was The real-life drama behind filming locations, Very different to other articles in the page this article was more playful in nature. It had icons scattered throughout as well as big images that were the main focus besides the content. Very informative yet bold and big and kept paragraphs on the shorter side.

USA TODAY

At first glance this website is mainly entertainment based articles. Colors are bright, inconsistent and fun, as well as all articles speak about artists, actors and any person with any kind of following. The top of this website includes the top 10 of entertainment such as songs and music. The article I chose to further explore was about “
New York Fashion Week September 2022: Kendall Jenner, Regina Hall, Steve Aoki more celebs at NYFW” The information and content for was kept in shorter increments while the images were much larger. I am starting to see a pattern in terms of entertainment articles.

Business Insider

At first glance, the inside is filled with a lot of white space. Instantly giving the website a professional clean look. It is organized but also very informative and gives one article space in the main page of the website. The article that was deemed important at the time of my research was...

Billionaire investor and Trump megadonor Peter Thiel praises Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as 'the best of the governors' for offering 'a real alternative to California'

While reading The article, the start of it included bullet points to help the reader get an idea quickly before reading the article. It became clear that it was meant to be informative without swaying the reader. The spoke about specific quotes and background information about them such as numbers and to why things were said. Some information also includes background information about the people that these articles were written about.

COSMOPOLITAN

While browsing Cosmopolitan it was filled with little icons and shapes. The website was in a much more playful layout even sneaking in emoji’s into titles. Cosmopolitan is more playful in terms of speaking about information yet very detailed with a lot of background information.

PEOPLE's 100 Companies that Care 2022: Meet the Employers Putting Their Communities First

PEOPLE MAGAZINE

The text and layout is very playful almost like a comic book. Some articles are advertised higher and bigger while others are much smaller.  While it does have big images in the specific article I chose it does hold a lot of information behind it. Down to history and prices of each company spoken about.

Responses
Based on the very start of the article it is clear that the Author is passionate about this subject as he self entered his recent visits to the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C. and how it connected to his excitement of being able to enter a Modern Vision Gallery in the Milwaukee Art Museum. The voice is of excitement and passion, with deep analysis and other criterias that back up his excitement for the topic he is interested in.

Jason McDowell dived deep into research with data and interviews to backup his views. But also fed the reader a lot of information and one that sorta pushes you to want to go out and see where these demolishings happened. It is really well written and easy to follow yet with the layout and imagery it feels like a breeze to read.

Drea Weisto - Passionate Writer

Drea Weisto is a 21 year old senior at Milwaukee Institute Of Art And Design. She is a Writing Minor and an Nsp Major. She is passionate about writing and works at the Academic Success Center, tutoring students with their writing and papers. She started this position straight out of her first year due to her being recommended by a professor. Drea’s writing path was one that was not planned but came as a surprise. Drea plans on working a 9 to 5, editing and publishing works. Drea currently writes poetry and is working on her Senior Thesis which she is very passionate about and deeply relates to her other interests. She came into MIAD for photography, while it is still something she is passionate about her drive for writing is stronger. Drea stated “you get a backspace in writing” which is something that really stuck with me. Outside of the art world she is a movie buff, she spoke about her time watching films such as The Rocky Horror Movie Picture show and stated “it was unforgettable” while explaining how there was a full shadow cast call and response audience. Mentioned to watch these films at the Oriental. Briefly also recommended a film called Silent Of The Lambs. You can find Drea’s work and poetry on Twitter @dreairhead. I truly suggest you check out her work, she is amazing and passionate and has great movie recommendations.

Asenath, you've done a good job giving an overview of what the websites look like and how they are organized. I like that you also discussed how the content of the articles were laid out without going into too much detail about the content itself.

I didn't look a lot into political articles but it's interesting that Business Insider does a quick bulleted list almost like a TL:DR and intro for talking points at the same time.
