News Articles Analysis

There are several ways that people can get the news today. Many news articles share key differences that can draw in different people and ages depending on their client base. The three websites I chose to compare are Teen Vouge and CNN. Two very different client bases are bound to have several differences, here are a few that were noted.

Teen Vouge:
-Light topics
-Many articles based on advice
-Much more breathable design
-Article tries to be more relatable to a feminine teenage crowd
-More news based on celebrities

This website often focuses on news that the younger crowd would find interesting and keep them reading. This often centralizes on the future, celebrates, and ways to form your personality. Within all of this the website has a clean user friendly design that is easy to navigate. An article I looked at was "82 Best Dorm Toom Essentials to Make Small Living Places on Campus Feel More Like Home". This article was giving advice to graduating teenagers on what to stock their dorm room with. Although this article is mainly just suggestions it is to be noted that many of the items are at a higher price point that many starting college students would not be able to afford. The article gives it's best reasoning as to why you need many of these items while keeping things brief. College is something that most teens are thinking about and writing a topic about this is something that would draw many in.

CNN:
-Tackles darker topics and discusses them
-More centered on politics
-More compact design
-Appeals to a more general crowd
-Focuses on todays news
-Has light hearted content on a separate page

CNN is a news network that many turn to to get the news of the world as it is. CNN often looks at much more dark topics that more chipper news cites tend to avoid. Although this doesn't mean that there isn't anything lighthearted on the website. There are more optimistic articles, although they are a bit more buried than the headlines about death or war. An article I looked at was titled "How a small musical about a Black queer theater usher became the toast of Broadway". This article was a nice look at the life of an actor and how they grew to be where they are. CNN typically has an older follower base most interested in politics, so it is nice to bring a black queer artist to the spotlight. The article goes into depth about their achievements and sprinkling quotes from an interview in. Reading this article was quite inspiring and encouraging to be who you are and follow your dreams.

On Milwaukee:
-More local culture based
-Top headlines are based on sports
-Friendly for locals looking for something to do and tourists
-Not much news on politics or other world events
-Primarily experience based
-Aimed towards young adults and up

The final website, On Milwaukee, is a great guide to Milwaukee and what to do when you have free time within the city. For anyone who is interested on exploring Milwaukee or just wants to get out during the weekend, this website is a great start. This article also gives small businesses a chance to shine and gain a bit more business. An article I looked at was "100 things to do in Milwaukee this summer". This article gives some good general advice for those looking for some fun in the sun or for something to eat. This article was on the front page despite that summer is coming to an end and some of the events were either temporary or are infeasible given the colder weather coming up. A lot of the restaurants on the list are still great options for those looking for something to try. At the time the article was published in July, the things on this list have a little bit for everyone.

Alexis, I think you did a good job identifying the target audience of each website and how the types of content that they produce fit their audiences. You also picked articles that fit well within the content of each site. CNN and Teen Vogue were good sites to compare considering how different they are.

I really like you listed bullet points for each of the websites, it makes it quicker for me to understand and get a sense of idea for what's the website is like. It would also be nice if you have these links or urls that lead to these websites that you're discussing. Awesome blog post!

"-Much more breathable design"

Is it breathable or is it not organized properly /or doesn't have enough information? Breathable is nice though. To me Teen Vogue felt weirdly organized with little information to separate articles.

I really appreciate the bullet point intro, reminiscent of Insider and their 3-bullet summaries at the beginning of their articles. For the future, it's a good idea to italicize titles, to make them easier to pick out, hyperlinking them would also have a similar effect.

Adding the intro organizes things! I hvane't seen that with other blog posts!
I like that you were able to dissect the teen vogue's flaw in thinking they could put high priced products thinking most college students could afford it!

I really like you listed bullet points for each of the websites, it makes it quicker for me to understand what the website is like. It would be amazing to also include the links so I can immediately go to the websites your listing!
