Demolition article analysis & voice

Milwaukee is a historic city with many buildings that were built with the classic 'cream city' bricks, Although in recent years the city has prioritized parking spaces over visual appeal. That is what the article 'These buildings were demolished for soulless surface parking spaces' by Jason McDowell focuses on in their article. According to the DNS (Department of Neighborhood Services) buildings built prior to 1929 are protected and cannot be demolished. Although this is a nice feature that protects many historic buildings, many buildings after that time period have been demolished and replaced. This is discussed in McDowell's article, how the soul is being removed from Milwaukee. The way this topic is discussed is in a slightly disheartening tone. It is saddening to know that so many beautiful buildings were demolished to make room for parking lots that most will never use due to the price. McDowell carries this tone across the article that what lost can not be restored, although new buildings made can emulate this older style. Although the problem is that many people don't agree on which style to follow, although it's safe to say that Milwaukee is going for a more modern feel. Driving through the third ward is a confusing mix of historic architecture and a random modern skyscraper sprinkled in with random parking lots. McDowell captures this weird feeling well in lines such as "Nobody looks at a parking lot and says, "That is beautiful," nor do travelers book their vacation plans based on the aesthetics and convenience of parking lots.". It's a funny take that makes the reader realize the irony of having so many empty lots litter the city.
