The news. Love it or hate it can't live without it. From reading the newspaper to scrolling on your phone the news has taken many forms throughout the years. Today, there is an endless internet supply of articles, journals, and guides to whatever your specific needs and interests are. So, I get the majority of my news from twitter. I never said it was the most reliable source but the humor intertwined within makes it the most enjoyable for me. Tone is a very important part of reading for me and everybody likes something a little different. I instantly know whether or not I’ll love it based on the tone. Some are a lot more serious, strictly business, while others are filled with personality and flavor. From the list of Milwaukee based websites some stood out more than others.
OnMilwaukee had a plethora of guides and lists about Milwaukee. I would definitely look at this site to figure out where to get brunch next or how summerfest went. The tone is very friendly and inviting while getting straight to the point. The layout and web design add to the friendly tone with bright colors and user friendly layout. There isn't much fluff which is nice and the reads are enjoyable and entertaining. Overall kind of generic, but it’s effective in what it does.
MilwaukeeMag seems very current and with the times. Sleek design, minimal color, and noticeable tabs make it easy to navigate. The tone of some of the articles are fun and fresh and like OnMilwaukee very straight to the point. I enjoy how queer artists are involved allowing there to be different approaches within the writing. The one written by Dear Ruthie had a great personality and I love when there is humor involved.
Looking at these sources gives a great overview of professional writing and how it works. Each writer has their own voice and style and now it's time to find mine.
